Rock material particle size and its correlation with the point load test index

Abstract: This work proposes the methodology to obtain a correlation between particle size of rock material and point load test index (Is 50), in order characterize materials, present mining projects terms resistance. For correct development activities, both open pit (quarries) underground (mines), it is important determine compressive strength rocks, since, through it, geomechanical classifications are obtained, thus calculate safety factors define stabilization and/or fortification systems for operations. was developed on basis samples from geological formation subsequent preparation specimens, then they were subjected physical tests, which can be carried out without problem field, finally, respective relationships obtained. The results encouraging equations proposed achieve objective.
